Walmart

As most of you are aware, Walmart is building a new supercenter directly behind our neighborhood. This Walmart will be at the Main Street and 1187 split. The City of Crowley will open the dead end street of Crowder Drive (inside MesaVista) so that it joins with Walmart.

There are alot of mixed feelings about Walmart being built so close to our neighborhood and joining our neighborhood streets into its parking lot.

  • Crime will increase.

  • Traffic will increase.

  • Property values will decrease while the city's income increases.

  • Noise Increase....and MORE!

Just an FYI if you are wondering what all the construction is about behind our neighborhood off 1187 and Main Street.

Snakes on the Move

Two snakes were found in the front yards of neighbors on La Sierra Court last week. The pictures below will show you just how big these snakes were! Yikes! Watch where you step!!

Not many more days and school for CISD is out for the summer! This can only mean one thing, do you have your summer fun list ready in order to keep your kids busy, cool, and involved with other kids? If not, here are some things going on this summer that can at least get you started. These events are either FREE or very low cost - which is what we are all looking for!

Tuesdays - Peter Piper Pizza is hosting a Kids Fun Day from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. During this time, kids enjoy two slices of pizza, a drink, five tokens, and a craft! Plus, if you purchase a $5 t-shirt, they enjoy a free ice cream on Tuesdays too! Can't beat this deal!!

Wednesdays - Crowley Public Library hosts the Summer Reading Program. This enables kids to keep up their reading skills, watch entertaining shows, earn reading points and win prizes! This is held at 10 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. each Wednesday. Visit http://www.ci.crowley.tx.us/ for more detailed information under the Library link.

Bowling - Visit http://www.kidsbowlfree.com/ and register your kids online. Once you have done this, you will get two free games of bowling, everyday, this summer when you go on Monday thru Friday at Cityview! You must pay for the shoe rental (minimal price) but everything else is free. Adults can pay a one-time fee of $24.95 and bowl free the rest of the summer with their kids! Don't miss out on this opportunity.

Splash Pad - Opens last weekend in May and is opened from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. every day of the summer. It closes the first weekend in September. So, come cool off and enjoy the summer heat! Admission is FREE and no pets are allowed. Bring drinks to keep you cool and lunches are welcome too!

More fun and free stuff todo coming up. Email your free fun stuff to mesavistanews@gmail.com so we can inform others in our neighborhood.

Enjoy gearing up for the summer!

House Fire

One of our Mesa Vista residents' home was struck by lightening and caught fire last night during the horrible storms. Thankfully, their home was not completely destroyed; however, they have alot of damage (smoke, water, etc). This home is occupied by an elderly couple, The Ebb Family, who are just precious people. Their address is 948 Crowder, red brick home with navy blue shutters. I spoke directly with Ray this afternoon on exactly how the lighten struck. He was up watching televison and the lightening bolt struck straight through the roof, inside the home, under the carpet, out the front door, and blew up and out of their drive way causing a whole about 2 feet wide. The bolt struck only 8 feet away from where Ray was sitting in a chair. The interior is pretty damaged and it was just devastating to see. I am sure this is devastating to them. Ray is a retired baptist preacher and he and his wife stay at home. Ray is currently on dialysis several times a week for several hours a day. We are asking Mesa Vista families to give as you can whether its financially or just your time. I know they can use alot of help cleaning up in and around their home. If you or your family feel led to donate any funds to help them, it would be appreciated. You may contact me via email at mesavistanews@gmail.com or you may directly drop your donation to their mailbox (Attn: Ray Ebb) at the address above. Any donations/contributions to them getting their life back to normal would be appreciated! Thank you, lets gather together to help one another. We are in the midst of putting together a cookout (Smoked Brisket with all the fixins) in the culdasac across from the Ebb's home, Behrens Court @ The Perrys. Once this is set in stone, flyers/emails will be distributed to inform all residents of the time and date of the cookout. All proceeds will go directly to Ray and his wife to assist in any expenses they may have during this time. Thank you all - please life this family up in your prayers!

March = Spring Fever!

Tomorrow is March 1st! I don't know about you but I have spring fever! The sun is out and we had a weeks worth of some warm temperatures. I actually even got a sunburn this past weekend while enjoying some time in the backyard. I was thinking how fast this year has already flown by...it's March for heavens sake! Daylight savings time is in a couple of weeks, school is almost out for Spring Break, and summer is upon us. It's the time of year to begin making Easter plans, reserve those summer time vacation spots, and work in the yard. This has to be, by far, my most favorite time of year. I already want to plant flowers and establish a garden, but I know I have to be patient and not rush it. Glance down below to find important events going on in March.

March 1st - 4th grade students have TAKS testing! Please lift these students up in prayer this week as this is a very stressful time for them and their parents.

Sunday, March 13th - Daylight Savings Time - Set your clocks forward 1 hour or do it before bed on Saturday, March 12th. Also change your smoke detector batteries to stay safe!

March 14th -18th - Spring Break - Crowley ISD students are out for Spring Break from March 14th through March 18th. Please be extra cautious these days driving throught the neighborhood. These kids will be out enjoying the sunshine and not paying attention to drivers.

Emergency General PTA Meeting!

March 1st -- 7:30 p.m. -- Deer Creek Elementary School Cafeteria

The PTA is currently finalizing bids for a new awning to go over the playground area. This must be voted on by the general PTA membership and we need you there to make quorum. We are ready to move forward with the plans, paperwork to CISD and installation. If it is approved at this meeting, we can have the awning installed before school is out this year!

If you are a part of the PTA organization at Deer Creek Elementary - PLEASE BE AT THIS MEETING!
